[09.04.2025] Meridiani Digitali: SMART MOBILITY Human-scale cities or machine-scale cities?
As famously stated in a McKinsey study, the car has become “a computer on wheels,” where the hardware-defined vehicle is increasingly joined by the software-defined vehicle. The spread of digital technologies in the automotive sector clearly illustrates how product transformation—driven by the need to meet customer expectations for constant connectivity and interaction, much like with mobile devices—is reshaping an entire industry.
Car makers are now deeply engaged in a transformation that is redefining the value chain, introducing new players such as software vendors and telco providers, and demanding the digitalization of their organizations in order to fully unlock the benefits of the connected car.
These themes go far beyond the industrial perimeter and involve a wide range of stakeholders. Smart mobility, in fact, is also a tool that reimagines our cities through the lens of sustainable development. The term encompasses multiple components: technology, mobility infrastructure (parking systems, charging networks, signage, vehicles), integrated urban mobility solutions (including new mobility models), and—most importantly—people.
[25.11.2024] Meridiani Digitali: Digital Between Freedom and Security in the Mediterranean
In an era marked by rapid digital transformation, the Mediterranean stands out as a region of rich diversity and complex challenges. At the same time, there is a growing need to protect communities from security threats such as disinformation and cybercrime. On this occasion, the Meridiani Digitali conference aims to delve into how organizations operating in the digital sector can contribute to building a safer and more inclusive future, harnessing the power of technology to promote cooperation and stability across the Mediterranean.
[20.06.2024] Meridiani Digitali: From Roses to Emojis. Feelings in the Digital Age.
Feelings in the digital age. This talk will explore the impact of Artificial Intelligence on our senses, behaviors, and human relationships. It will examine how traditional psychological and cultural codes that have shaped our interactions may be transforming in response to the increasing presence of technology in our daily lives. Questions will be raised about the future of symbolic gestures from the past—such as roses or handwritten notes—in the face of digital communication. New forms of interaction will be explored, along with the potential emergence of a cyber-human civilization.
[07.03.2024] Meridiani Digitali: Artificial Intelligence and Human Creativity
Some scholars argue that, given the major advances made by artificial intelligence in recent years, we will soon be replaced by machines in every aspect of our lives—including creativity.
A specific focus will be on the topic of information: the latest Ital Communications – Censis report found that 76.5% of Italians believe that “fake news” is becoming increasingly sophisticated and harder to detect, and as many as 20.2% of the population are convinced they are unable to recognize it.
[11.11.2022] Meridiani Digitali: Technologizing Humans or Humanizing Technology
The event invited speakers to reflect on the boundary marked by the primacy of the human being over technology, machines, and artificial intelligence. In particular, the current and future impacts of the digital world on the real economy, businesses, and therefore on workers will be examined from different perspectives.
Digital humanism is both a value and a daily practice aimed at safeguarding everything that humans cannot forgo—starting from the fundamental principle that machines must serve people.
[06.05.2022] Meridiani Digitali: Southern Italy, the Country, and the Challenge of the Digital Transition
The event focuses on the critical challenge posed by the digital transition. Speakers will discuss the theme: “the challenge that regions, citizens, and the labor market face in light of the major transformations brought about by technological innovation and digital transformation. How can Southern Italy turn this challenge into a vital development opportunity—one that helps bridge the North-South divide and enhances the overall competitiveness of the country?”
Participants will share experiences, expertise, and opinions on the digital transformation—an especially sensitive issue, as the South still faces significant difficulties. Stark territorial disparities persist, with a notable digital gap between the North and South, deepening the divide that continues to split the country.
This conversation aims to explore how digital transition can be leveraged to project a historically disadvantaged region toward a future of sustainable development.
